Performance Elastomers maintains close relationships with our customers, and aggressively seeks feedback on product performance. Not only does this help us stay on top of our customers’ needs, but it also helps us identify opportunities for different applications in other companies as well.
Similar issues percolate in a variety of industries. Rubber
is an incredibly versatile material and extruded profiles are the least expensive
way to take advantage of its sealing, spring, vibration dampening, traction,
and conformation properties. When we develop one solution for one customer,
we may simultaneously discover the solution for another. Many of the following
situations came through advanced capabilities addressing an entirely different
product issue.
Performance Elastomers is the clear choice for cleaning devices. From simple hand squeegees to complex riding floor scrubbers you’ll find our flexible, abrasion resistant blades. In addition, we keep floor scrubbers operating effectively by protecting the components with tank and body seals.
Performance Elastomers cleans up another way. We extrude mating components for vacuum cleaners. These are the tough seals that keep the top and bottom of the vacuum cleaner aligned and sealed so the dirt and dust flow smoothly to the filter.

One of those advanced capabilities is gaskets for the signal lighting that keeps traffic flowing. High intensity lights need to carry long distances in all spectra, and are subject to ozone, NOx, salt, rain, and snow. The gasket must neither leak nor out-gas., since either result can destroy the optical, electrical or electronic components and place lives at risk.
Diving into another set of tough specifications, we’ve gotten deep into swimming pool gaskets. These are designed to prevent the frame from cutting and opening rips in the pool liner. Performance Elastomers gasket protects the liner while resisting chlorine and UV degradation.
We have yet to make a mark in the bumper market. But that’s because we try very hard not to. Our non-marking bumper pads for medicine carts (shown below) keep walls and doors looking clean as new in assisted living and skilled care facilities and in hospitals.
In still more application of shock absorption, we extrude the comfort grips increasingly found on hand tools like picks, rakes and shovels. The grip actually performs three services: traction – the ability to maintain a consistent hold; conformity – forming to the hands to evenly distributing the stresses; and shock dampening – diverting energy that could harm joints and tendons.
